I had an excellent experience with VHD. They built a 210 sq. ft. unit for my autistic adult son in our backyard and it is AMAZING what they did in such a small amount of space! The workers were friendly and responsive to our needs. They added a few surprises such as two sky lights that made it special. It is difficult to get permits in some cities and they worked hard to make sure our mini-home was not just a dream but a reality. Steve and Nicky Vallejos are great to work with. I would recommend using VHD for your small home project.

I bought a home that they fabricated a couple years ago. The home is leaking in rains due to improper water barrier (do not understand how city permits did not catch this) and when I called them, all their numbers are disconnected. Their subs numbers are all disconnected also. This group is to be avoided at all cost.

Designed and built a great ADU for us. But the process took easily three times longer than needed, permits were only issued after *I* made phone calls to city hall, they failed to pay subcontractors and we had a lien on our home at one point, and after finishing the construction they have completely disappeared and failed to fulfill warranty commitments. Everything took longer than they said and required huge effort and stress on my part to chase them down and find out if the project was going to happen, from design through final permit. Save yourself the stress and choose a contractor with a better business sense and who will follow through on promises and guarantees.

I'm not sure what's going on with the negative reviews. VHD built a great in-law unit for us behind our house after several other contractors told us we would literally have to spend hundreds of thousands of more dollars. There is nothing bad or cheap about pre-fab homes. Super easy to work with, great communicators, and one of the most affordable options out there. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone looking to build an ADU or add an addition to your home.

After 16 weeks of zero progress I had to cancel my project with VHD/Prefab ADU.
During those 16 weeks there were 3 separate instances where I was unable to contact Michelle for 3+ weeks each. During the last instance, plans that were supposed to be delivered on a specific date were not and it took 3 emails, 1 certified letter, and 4 phone calls to finally speak with Michelle. Since there was no update or movement on my draft, no final pricing given, and no plans ready for city submission I decided to pull the plug.
One of the primary reasons I went the prefab route was for the supposed speed that comes from using turn-key solutions and centralized/offsite construction. Prefab ADU's website says these ADU's are built in 90 days and are the "fastest solution on the market" - but you actually need to have a draft done to get there.
I understand that delays can occur in any project, but the lack of communication on these matters or reply to customer messages is inexcusable. They are nice people but unfortunately they were unable to deliver on their promises or meet any of the agreed upon dates.
(Update to Company Response on Sept 15 follows:)
1.) My poor experience was not because of COVID-19 and I am attaching an email to prove this.
2.) My plans were not complete - I asked Michelle specifically on the phone before cancelling. She stated that the delays were from using 3rd party Drafters.
3.) There was NO communication from Michelle for three different periods of 3 weeks each. I am now including copies of the two certified letters I sent which provide details as to my issues with the process.
The response to my post again shows a lack of accountability and responsibility on behalf of this business and I fully stand behind my review.

Terrible experience. Took my money to the tune of $5,000 to simply begin creating the plans in preparation fo DDT permits. I signed the agreement and paid the money then I could not contact anyone. Left messages. No one called back. On the few occasions when I was able to reach somone on the phone there was always an excuse including these gems, a graduation, a wedding and finally a serious family accident. This went on from July to September. By advice by a attorney, I amicably requested my money back sever as l times by viice message and email, finally someone responded stating they would send the refund. It is now December. I haven't heard from anyone and do not have my refund.
Do not work with this company. They still take your money and then not fulfill the work. It sill be your time and money to get your money back. The gloves are off now.
