I reached out to The Eden Group for services regarding a project of mine and I must say, they were quick to respond. I wanted to build an investment home on a vacant lot which had some challenging zoning issues. Joseph helped me (and my partner) to work with the city and implement an efficient design along with submitting the proper paperwork for my variance. I hired The Eden Group to provide me with some structural plans for an addition to my house. The old engineer had many mistakes and was not able to finish the job. Once I hired The Eden Group they immediately got started on my the job and completed it within 2 weeks. It was approved by the city without any corrections. I had a property in escrow up in Big Bear, and the home inspector found some areas of question regarding cracks in the foundation and work that had been done previously to try and mitigate structural issues. I knew my next step would be to hire a structural engineer to further evaluate the foundation, but finding a structural engineer in Big Bear was challenging, as it seems there may not be very many that service that area. I happened to stumble upon The Eden Group via Google. Sam returned my call same day, and was able to get out to the property the following morning to do a last minute structural observation. He was able to give me a verbal briefing of his findings, and within 72 hours, gave me a very comprehensive report outlining his findings. He was even able to give me a range of what the approximate construction costs would be to fix the issues he found. Based on his information, we backed out of escrow due to the high costs of foundation and drainage repairs that would need to be done. Sam and The Eden Group saved me from making what could have been a terrible financial/ investment decision. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a structural or civil engineer, and I will absolutely be using them again in the future!

WARNING!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNTIL YOU READ THIS!!!

We hired the Eden Group over a year ago! They are still not done with the plans! Furthermore, it is my opinion that they preformed fraud to extract more money from us!

We have a slope project in our backyard that the city got involved with in Thousand Oaks. The city said we needed a soil report and plans for a grading permit. We hired Grover Hollingsworth for the soil report and the Eden Group for the plans. The area of the slope that was disturbed was a very limited area. The city wanted us to put it back to the original condition. It seems to me that these soil contractors are in bed with each other. Both of the companies came up with over-reaching plans, however Joseph Eden of The Eden Group came up with the most over-reaching plan of all!

A simple plan of taking the soil that was taken from slope and putting it back turned into digging up the entire slope from top to bottom, digging benches 1'-2' into the bedrock, destroying all of the current "grandfathered" landscaping, removing all the material from the site and then bringing over 6 huge truck loads of dirt to compact back to the site.

The most alarming part of this to me, is that we have a natural rock face cliff at the top of the slope. Joseph Eden went off the rails and wanted to do a 2:1 slope from the top of this cliff face, not from the bottom, as it was before. This would have caused a massive amount of dirt and would have made it so that our slope would not match our neighbors slope. This would have required us to redo the job and start over. All the while requiring the Eden Group and soil engineer to oversee the project at hundreds of dollars per hour.

It is also my opinion that this is "Standard Operating Procedure" for these people and these companies. Additionally, when we took these plans down to the city, they thought the idea was great and did not understand what my problem was.

After originally posting a similar review about 2 weeks ago, Joseph Eden and Bob Hollingsworth both agreed to do the right thing, but have again reneged. What these guys like to do is play word games, drag their feet and not keep their word. Joseph Eden likes to blame the soil engineer, Grover-Hollingsworth, yet they did not call for 6 truck loads of dirt, for example.

I think that this company and it's owner cannot be trusted and that you should look elsewhere if looking for a civil engineer.

We are now going to hire a new civil engineer and are filling a lawsuit against both companies. If anyone has had a similar experience with this company, please post a review here. We are also interested in a class action lawsuit if there are enough people with similar stories. Thank you

I was referred to the eden group by a developer friend for a commercial project in the valley and enjoyed working with Joseph and his team throughout the process. They always answer the phone and have a lot of experience which was very helpful due to the complexity of the requirements. The scope of their work was: Grading, Street Improvement, Low Impact Development, and shoring. Thanks Joe !!
