My parents have been looking into building an ADU for quite some time. But they never quite got to do it. It all seemed very complicated, and we didn’t feel comfortable going into a project like that, knowing that it might drag on forever. However, a friend who just did ADU with The ADU guru referred us and told us they are the company to talk to.
They took the appointment with us and reassured us that they would complete the construction of the ADU in less than 4 months, and from planning to completion, they will probably be done in less than a year. Obviously, we were a bit skeptical at first, but with their “no money upfront” program, they explained that their interest aligns with ours and plans to work as fast as possible.
And surely, they worked fast. It took us less than 2 weeks to get a set of plans submitted to the city. 2 and half months later, we had those plans signed and approved. The construction took four months to the day, and it was only because my parents were out of the house for 3 weeks, and they didn’t want people to work when they were not around.
Less than eight months after the meeting with them, we got the key.
My parents decided to use the ADU as an Airbnb, so the company helped us find an interior designer and an Airbnb manager.
So, the bottom line is that building an ADU with the ADU guru was the best decision we could ever make.

My partner and I were always looking to enter the real estate market as investors but buying a second house in Los Angeles is so expensive. We could never save enough money for the down payment, so our only way was to borrow against our own home for the down payment. We didn’t mind doing that, but the numbers don't make sense when you financed 100% of the second property. If we did that, we had to add $1,100 a month from our pocket to pay off the 2nd house mortgage, which is on top of the rental income. We thought it couldn’t be a good idea, so we were looking into building an adu.
We found the adu guru after a long search looking for a company that would help us to build the adu without any money down.
The process with them was easy and smooth, and all things considered painless.
Their people came on time and cleaned after every day of work. That was nice because we could still use our backyard, which didn’t turn into a complete construction site.
They also helped us to build a fence, so we kept our privacy.
