If zero stars were available, that’s what I would rate them. Houston was hit with a major hurricane in the last couple of weeks and Spectrum has made it more than just a little inconvenient to get damage that occurred due to the hurricane repaired in a timely manner. I tried to be a good neighbor and applied for a permit before starting construction. The application was denied initially because I did not include the height and width of the pickets I would be using to repair my fence. I thought that including the phrase “replace with standard pickets that match the existing fence” would be enough to explain what we were going to do. I was denied because I did not say it was going to be cedar pickets that I would be using. I had to start the entire process all over again, using the verbiage 5 1/2” x 6’ cedar pickets. This delay meant that our entire backyard would be exposed to the street for an additional week. Most people generally use the weekends to do the repairs. When you work, it is difficult to come home after a 12 hour work day and have the desire or energy to complete a fence project. Today, I finally received approval for the amended request. The very next email I received was from Spectrum letting homeowners know that you could start work without a permit and it also included very specific instructions for the materials being used…including that your pickets had to be cedar and 5 1/2” x 6’ long. This information would have been wonderful had it come out the day or two days after the storm hit not a week and a half to two weeks later. Most homeowners in the neighborhood had a lengthy wait for electricity and or Internet service. It was very easy to read emails on my phone. It was not easy to fill out an application for a home repair on my phone.
Instead of focusing on property owners trying to repair fences and take down damage trees, right now maybe they should focus more on the community areas that need repairs such as trees being trimmed, debris being removed, and dangerous sidewalks being fixed. You know…the things that we pay dues to them to do. Oakhurst is a nice neighborhood and the owners that live here want to continue to have a nice neighborhood. The majority of people are not thinking how can I make repairs look tacky or unpleasant to the eye. We just want to secure our property and get back to normal life. I hope that giving my honest opinion of how this natural disaster was handled by Spectrum does not result in my property being targeted for nit picky infractions now or in the future.

I applied to an HOA managed by Spectrum to install a generator. I've never made that type of application to an HOA before, but their app made it easy. When they asked for additional information, I was able to quickly provide what they needed and send photos. I was especially happy that the project was approved very quickly. Much appreciated!
