We contracted Sheffield to rebuild our home after the Marshall Fire. This is the only scenario where we would have built a custom home, and it was complex under the circumstances, but we are very happy with the final result

Sheffield worked with us to build a custom home with features we have never had previously and we are happy with the design, quality, features, and finishes in our new. The foremen we worked with were outstanding and very customer focused (Lee and Felipe). We appreciated the advice and insights as we navigated both the design and build process. Mariana was a great project manager and we appreciate the the cost consciousness and willingness to manage trade-space on cost and design as we weighed various design options.

Overall our experience with Sheffield was a positive one and we have a beautiful home.

As a Marshall fire survivor, I am so happy to work with Sheffield. The pre-contruction preparation took about one year, but Sheffield managed the house rebuild in 10 months with great condition. Nicole and Jason are great to work with. They certainly addressed our concerns and questions during/after the construction in a time manner. We have been back home about an year, we didn't see any significant problem of the house.

Sheffield was great to work with on every front when we rebuilt our house after the Marshall wildfire. Great people, attention to detail, flexible. Listening. Customer-centric superintendents, Like Bob Lopezi and Felipe. Supportive and effective project manager (Nicole). The financial VP (deb) was always so knowledgeable and helpful. The end result is a house that is the best, quality and design-wise. They also excelled at the energy efficiency aspects. I should mention that the home warranty inspector was so surprised that our final warranty punch list was so small compared with other builders he had been working with. Sheffield offered great attention to detail. You can do no better.

This last year my husband and I decided to finish our basement. We shopped around quite a bit and asked neighbors and friends about companies who finished their basements. We decided to go with Sheffield after meeting with David because of their honest business model. The process from beginning to end was extremely easy for the homeowners, us. They had a project manager, Felipe-so easy to work with, who took care of any questions we had and made sure the permits were pulled and every aspect was to code; they had professional contractors who were always respectful in our home; they had a design center from where to chose our interior look; and they had an easy to read online system, so I could see where we were in the project. The end result receives compliments by everyone!

A Deeply Disappointing Experience

I contracted Sheffield Homes to finish my basement, hoping for a seamless and professional experience. Unfortunately, the outcome was extremely disappointing. The severity of the issues encountered compels me to share my experience so that others can be fully informed before making a decision.

Initial Communication and Coordination

At the outset, the communication with David Lewis was promising. He seemed genuinely interested in understanding our vision. However, as the project progressed, numerous issues surfaced. This initial positive impression quickly deteriorated as the project continued to be delayed, and the problems became more significant.

Issues with Design and Execution

The final build deviated notably from the originally designed floor plan. Our goal was to maximize our living area, but the design flaws led to a less functional space. They installed our outlets wrong. We specifically requested that they match the height of those in the rest of the house, but they did not adhere to this request and installed them too high.

Quality of Fixtures and Finishes

The quality of the fixtures and finishes was subpar. The bathroom mirror was measured wrong and installed incorrectly. The bathroom sink faucet was problematic in multiple ways: the stopper was improperly installed and couldn’t be controlled, and the faucet itself was off-center and crooked. Additionally, they installed the wrong shower tiles, which was a significant oversight.

A square pillar they installed ended up warped, requiring extensive back-and-forth before they finally agreed to fix it. Even then, the resolution process was unnecessarily drawn out. Light switches were another area of concern; they couldn't properly match them with the rest of the house, leaving me to fix several myself.

Damage and Negligence

During construction, constantly made a mess in our yard. they damaged a window screen we had stored in a safe area. Despite our precautions, their workers negligently broke it while moving heavy items. This incident reflects a broader pattern of carelessness and lack of respect for our property.

The HVAC Vent Issue: A Major Problem

The most distressing issue arose with the HVAC system. During their work, they somehow compromised the existing vents, resulting in a loud creaking sound whenever the heating system runs. This sound, occurring every 4-5 seconds, is unbearably disruptive, especially as it emanates from a vent right above our living room. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this with Sheffield Homes, they continually assured us it was fixed when it wasn't. As the weather warmed and we stopped using the heat, the issue temporarily subsided, only to return with the colder weather. They promised they'll come back to fix it, but lied to us and ended up never fixing the problem.

Unacceptable Response and Unprofessional Behavior

The lack of responsiveness and professionalism from Sheffield Homes has been incredibly frustrating. They dragged their feet, were slow to communicate, and took months to respond. After nearly two years of this ordeal, they effectively ceased communication. A particularly egregious moment was when Asia Villalva, whom I can only describe as a professional gaslighter, stood in our basement and insisted there was no issue while the creaking sound was clearly audible. Another employee, Jeff Thomson, even acknowledged that Sheffield was at fault, yet there has been no action to date.

Final Thoughts

I would have been willing to pay extra to resolve these issues, but all Sheffield Homes did was dismiss my concerns and gaslight me. Their work quality is abysmal, and their employees are rude and unprofessional. They left us with a poorly finished basement and a significant HVAC issue that has been an ongoing source of stress and frustration.

I strongly advise anyone considering Sheffield Homes to reconsider. The experience has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend their services to anyone.

Sheffield basements was a perfect fit for our basement finishing project. Everything flowed seamlessley from the initial basement walk to the final inspection and punch list. Schedules were met or exceeded during the whole process and communication was excellent. In addition to livable space we wanted a home theater that was open, yet accoustically functional, and found working with them and their preferred audio visual contractor to be a seamless process. We now find every excuse to spend time in the basement while catching up on great movies. I would definitely recommend using the Sheffield team for your basement project.
