Let's start with the pros: he was easy to get a hold of, quickly came out to provide a bid, came out to do the work very quickly, and finished the job successfully and fast.

However, the cons outweighs the pros in my opinion. After the work was completed, I wanted to inspect the system to ensure the leak was successfully repaired - I believe it is my right as the customer and home owner to ensure work has been completed successfully before payment. He became confrontational and acted as if I had highly insulted him. Additionally, he made note that they had completed the work they were hired to perform and if it was still having an issue, it was my problem and not his.

I had initially made an inquiry as to whether or not I could just hire him for a few hours to run an excavator, he said no, so I left it at that and hired him to do the full job. However, after getting upset about wanting to check his work, he also made an aggressive note about basically being insulted over asking a simple question, which after he said no, I did not bring up again and instead hired him to do the whole job.

While I was not expecting perfection because he is not a landscaper, the state of the yard after he left is what I would consider unacceptable. Up to 1 foot above finished grade in places, with the sod left mounded in the middle. I did dirt work with utility companies for over 10 years and this kind of work would have been considered completely unacceptable.

At this point I will either need to spend dozens of hours raking and leveling the yard, rent an excavator, or hire another company to clean up the mess he left. Again - I wasn't expecting perfection, but I WAS expecting a professional job with proper clean up.

All in all, this job was entirely unprofessional and if I had known he was going to be this way and leave my yard in this condition, I would have spent the extra couple hundred for the other company that was ready to do the work a week later than he was.

Everyone I know has been sent pictures of the work and told to stay away from his company. I will likely also be calling the company that referred me to him to let them know of my experience so hopefully they no longer make referrals.

Easy company to work with. He explained all the pros and cons for what we wanted done. They did all the dirt work, septic, and water well hook ups for our new shop. They also explained ways to save a few bucks. Seems my good ideas can get expensive. After having a great experience we had them build our barn pad and arena also. Honest and hard working.

I have had Scoggin Excavating work at my property for over 14 years. Scoggin has done everything. Land clearing, digs for the house and shop sites including gravel laydown, footers, and backfill, septic and leech field installation, driveway prep for asphalt, you name it they have done it all at our home. Recently, Curt was back out to do all the ground work for our 2000sq ft. addition. Curt has always shown up on time on schedule, and completed the projects way ahead of schedule allowing for other subs to get in early and speed up the project. He has always been courteous and friendly. I have learned over time when you find someone who does great work to keep their number handy as life changes and so do plans.
