Sanborn Design recently replaced our old shingle siding with new sheathing and Hardee Board siding. They also replaced our old windows with new vinyl dual-pane windows and our old sun porch roof with new polycarbonate panels. They did excellent work and paid attention to every detail. I would definitely recommend them!

Sanborn Design is owned and operated by James Sanborn, an experienced general contractor. James built us a beautiful well-constructed shed, and remodeled a very large room in the main house. The shed offered some design challenges, due to a less than flat location. James resolved the terrain problem efficiently and creatively. We love our shed and it will become an even nicer art studio in the future.

The remodel included new windows, relocated doors, walls, and flooring that transformed a rather dowdy, dismal room into a bright peaceful space. Again, James had creative ideas for the remodel and for solving an unexpected structural problem. His decisions were based on increasing the quality and longevity of the finished work. The most critical part of the remodel was the need to complete the project on time and James met that deadline.

James has a casual management style that can be somewhat reactive, as opposed to a proactive. We would have preferred an approach that was more concise with regard to cost and scheduling, but in the end, the work done by Sanborn Design was of high quality and an excellent value for the cost.

James is very likable and has a good-natured personality. He can become carried away with his enthusiasm for his work, and occasionally needs to be reminded to focus on the immediate question or issue. The camaraderie between James and his crew is good-natured and he has excellent sub-contractors. The work completed was of five-star quality. Two reasons why we did not give a 5-star overall rating was due to the number of scheduling changes that occurred, although the project was completed on time, and because the site clean-up at the end of the job could have been better. That said, we confidently recommend Sanborn Design.

James went above and beyond and his pricing was very reasonable. His team was efficient, respectful, and very tidy. James was very knowledgeable and offered helpful suggestions and solutions to get the project complete. The work completed was exactly what we agreed upon. I highly recommend his team.
