Full story: I started receiving post cards from Project Homestead saying they could help with getting a reduction in property taxes as well as a refund for part of the taxes paid the 3 years after I turned 65. The card also mentioned that as of a certain date, I would lose the refund for the first year. My cautious/suspicious nature caused me to disregard it as probably a scam and I threw the card away. However, I kept receiving cards in the mail with a notice saying I was getting closer to losing the first year refund. After several postcards, I decided to do a little research into the company to see if it was legit. I found out that yes, it is a legitimate business and saw very positive reviews from people who had been helped. Finally, I decided it would not hurt anything to reach out to Emmerich. I told him I had previously been on the tax department website and my understanding from what I read was that I had passed the deadline for applying for the over-65 exemption and that they no longer be able to process my application. He told me that was not correct and that he would work with them to get the over-65 exemption in place and generate a property tax credit for the 3 years since I turned 65. A couple of electronic document uploads and we were set. He explained to me what the process would be and gave me a timeline for the 3 different milestones. I didn't have to do a thing. Emmerich sent an email around the time of time of each milestone and provided an update. Everything happened as expected and as was stated at the beginning of the process. The cost was exactly as he told me at the beginning. No surprises at any point during the process. Everything about this was very smooth and very professionally handled. Do not hesitate to contact Emmerich and let him help you get your exemption in place and receive the refund you are entitled to.
