The 10 Year Review – Super Decking and Yes It Is That Good!
It’s not very often you see a review posted 10 years after the product was installed.
In 2014 I bought Lockdry decking for installation on a south facing deck in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Our deck is an elevated deck measuring approximately 24’ x 14’ and the Lockdry system keeps the hot tub area under the deck dry throughout the year. When I was looking for decking material, I was looking for a product that would not get too hot in the direct sun. As you can see in the pictures, the deck is fully exposed to the elements - it gets hit with full sun but it also sees it fair share of snow. With the heat radiating off the house, our deck has had to withstand temperatures from -40F to +40F.
The Nexan Team (Aaron Lacey was our Sales Rep) was great to work with and helped me plan the logistics to bring the decking from Alabama into Canada and get it approved by our local building codes. The decking today looks as good as it did when it was installed (and I shovel the snow off in the winter). The finish/ color has stood up and other than pressure washing it once a year it is very low maintenance.
In terms of installation, our contractor was very pleased with how easy the material was to work with and the hidden screws are definitely a plus.
I would recommend Nexan Lockdry decking without hesitation to anyone looking for a strong, long lasting decking solution.

We installed a large deck/ patio in 2020 over a
Room and large walk in basement. So the Nexan Aluminum Decking makes a great waterproof roof and deck —- bonus is that it doesn’t burn and keeps its shape and color. No staining or sanding….. all around great product.

My wife and I bought our aluminum decking material from Nexan Building Products in Cullman, Alabama after a long and exhaustive search. We looked at many companies and asked many questions. I am not a contractor, do not know much about building, and was intimidated at the possibility of making an expensive mistake. However, the fact that Consumer Reports rated the decking material from Nexan the best that it had tested, head and shoulders above every other decking material, helped a great deal, as well is seeing a neighbor’s aluminum deck that he bought from Nexan, which was beautiful.

The customer service at Nexan is not only as good as it gets, but sets its own standard. I can’t tell you how many times I called Aaron with many, many questions. He always responded with patience, expertise, respect, kindness, and a sincerity that is not easy to find. Throughout all the changes, his patience, courtesy, and respect never wavered. I was a tough customer going through a difficult time in life, and Aaron behaved like a saint. I will always have nothing but gratitude for him. Nexan is extremely fortunate to employ someone like Aaron.

The deck has now been finished for 1.5 years. It is so beautiful and I have never regretted our decision to go with Nexan. Because it is a light color, it can get dirty so it must be cleaned periodically. Other than this, maintenance of the deck is nonexistent. I have been told that I should rub oil into the steel braids of the railing every three, four, or five years or so, which is minimal, but have not yet done so. It could be done quickly.

In summary, building a Nexan aluminum deck has been a huge success with amazing customer support by Aaron. Thank you so much!

I had an unusual project - I needed an access cover for my septic tank in the middle of my concrete deck. I told Kellen what I wanted to do and he sent the parts cut to the exact size for my project. Everything turned out great! It looks good and I couldn't be happier!

We really like the idea of the lockdry deck, but it is not as great as presented. The edges become the issue. They provide a 1-1/2 by 1 1/2 inch edge trim. The decking is 1 inch. So, It should cover the 3/8 inch sub floor, but you can see in the pictures it does not. This was not covered anywhere in the install instructions. Since the edge trim is the last piece to be installed, you will have to completely remove all decking to fix. If there is any wood contact or exposed wood under the edge trim, you will have wood rot. They need to add the inside edge trim dimensions with instructions to avoid this issue or make the edge trim 2 x 2 to have some margin. Either way, this needs to be covered to avoid contractors installing incorrectly, then the homeowner either has to pay to completely redo, or live with the exposed wood and subsequent wood rot..

Unprofessional. They lost the product and i needed to contact them and ask about where my materials was did not get a answer for 3 days. Then when i asked about it they were passive aggressive about it blaming everyone else even me . i did not make or ship the product so how am i to blame for their issues? I asked them how they are going to make it right and the response is over and over we are not the shipper material was damaged sent pictures right away still no response about that keep going around and around not taking any responsibility . Do not buy or deal with this company

I'm not one to give a review. My husband came across a contractor that suggested this decking product since we have a patio under the deck, we needed to keep the water from leaking through. It is at our lake house. The contractor met with us said the water would drain at the end of the deck and asked if there was an eaves drain close by. We showed him where it was draining into the ground spout. He tore off the wood decking replaced with wood grain Nexan and replaced our railings. Our deck is one level, about 14×20. The cost was around eleven thousand dollars dollars. We ended up with decking that is butted up to a family room. Every time it rains all the water sits in that corner and drains down underneath ruining our column and separating the wood underneath. We tried getting satisfaction from the contractor, all he did was caulked. When we questioned why it didn't drain to the end where he asked about the eaves trough. He said that would have cost more. We are desperate it's ruining underneath. I called the company they told me it should be sloped so much every foot. When I told them it creaks so loud the neighbors can hear it. I was told to power wash it. This did nothing! They are not standing behind thier product and will continue to supply a contractor that won't stand behind his work. The worst eleven thousand ever spent ! So disappointing, it is going go cost us even more because it's ruining our structure. So disappointing!

Young salesperson wasn't understanding what I was looking for. Plant manager understood. Aluminium decking seemed durable but noisy when I walked on it. Can't imagine rain noise. I'd choose it over composite decking. It's expensive but cheaper than high end composite. Decided on 2 x 6 treated southern yellow pine, which is almost as hard as oak and 1/3 the cost of the other options. If you think the other options are maintenance free, you better do some research. My previous 2 x 6 cedar decking lasted 30 years. No way most composites will last that long. Beware composite decking in snowy climates. Snow loads can cause sagging between 16 inch on center joists. Opted for wire panels instead of glass, since all the railing and mounting options are very expensive.
