We engaged MGooden Design for what we all thought would be small, quick, but multi-part project in a somewhat out-of-the-way location (at least for Michael and his crew). Thanks to the unavailability of local builders, and some unforeseen planning & zoning speed-bumps, the job stretched on far longer than anyone anticipated.

Yet through it all, because MGooden Design served as the de facto general contractor, Michael & Co. kept their focus and maintained a steady but friendly hand on the project. That started, first and foremost, with an impeccable design. We knew from the moment we saw the first sketches that Michael had incorporated our thoughts and desires, and turned them into absolutely stunning plans.

He was always prompt in addressing any concerns we had, and extremely patient in answering our layman’s questions. Better still, over the course of the project, Michael was a regular visitor to the site, and his punch-lists for sub-contractors were invariably far more detailed and demanding than even our own. His attention to detail is unsurpassed.

Hiring an architect is almost never cheap (and if it was, you likely got what you paid for), but we’ve been extremely satisfied that our design dollars were spent on MGooden Design. And the reaction of family, friends, and neighbors to our completed project confirms that we made the right choice in architects.

We worked with Michael and Kevan at M Gooden Design on a multi-year project, resulting in a completely new backyard with what must be the best guest house in Denton. I had assumed, going in, that working with an architect would be challenging; expecting many, many rounds of design edits, power-struggling over the picture in my head vs. reality, etc. Instead, from the very first renderings, it was clear that Michael and his team had somehow "gotten it" right away. This firm is creative, client-focused, and patient (anyone willing to wait it out through the City of Denton's permitting process would have to be). But I would urge any potential client who wants to build something truly custom, modern, and beautiful to put Michael's firm on your list and then to LEAN IN to being patient. The right builder is out there, and seeing Michael's vision come to live was worth the wait.
