About a year ago my wife and I started planning to build a house. We decided on going with a company called wausau homes which led us to their local contractor Erick at Kurber Construction. Admittedly Erick told us we were his first wausau build so he was learning everything as we were. Even though it was all brand new to everyone Erick is an extremely professional contractor and kept us in the loop with everything often and as soon as he could. His company as well as himself do high quality work. I have already passed his name along to people that have mentioned building a home or remodels. I highly recommend them and will also use them for any of my future remodels, repairs or additions. I cannot speak high enough about Erick, his company, as well as his family all of which are fantastic and welcoming. So definitely give Kurber Construction a call for anything you need.

Kurber Construction was fantastic. We did not pick them for our build as we came to realize the expense of building so we are holding off. But our time with Erick was awesome. He was attentive, he communicated so well, and he answered my texts and emails in a timely manner. He was very professional but also made you feel like a friend and someone who cared. He has stayed in touch and when we are ready to entertain building again, he will be our first call. Highly recommend.

Erick and the team at Kurber construction were great to work with. We vetted contractors for our basement which became a pretty large project. We chose Kurber due to the responsiveness, and communication we had working with Erick. He was very attentive and open to working with us on anything we had questions on. The craftsmanship and follow-through from his team from prep, construction, to clean-up was extremely thorough. We couldn't be happier with our basement finish. We also enjoyed the buildertrend app they use during the process to keep everything organized and on schedule.

Erick Kurber and his crew were very responsive when we asked them for their help after experiencing severe water damage in our kitchen. They were able to quickly and professional remove all the cabinetry and then reassemble the cabinets after the flooring was repaired. Kurber also handled the drywall repair that was done very professionally and on time.

I would recommend Kurber Construction to anyone that needs quality remodeling work done on time and at a competitive price.

The owner (Erick) is a perfectionist. He expects the highest quality work out of himself, his employees and his sub contractors. Erick always aims to please his customers and works continually to give them great value with the highest quality possible for the best and most beautiful outcome.

Kurber Constructions jobsight is always very clean and tidy and never leaves any messes for his customers.

It seems that every process is calculated and finished in a timely fashion. Erick is very organized, efficient, patient, kind and when issues come up as they do in any construction project he always seems to have a great solution to resolve them quickly and professionally!

Our experience with Erick Kurber and Kurber Construction was a pleasure from start to finish. We vetted three highly-qualified contractors (Erick being one of them) prior to beginning the construction process. Erick stood out as the obvious choice for us. His professionalism, genuine interest in our project, knowledge of the construction business and attention to detail were some of the attributes that influenced our decision to build with Kurber Construction. We were impressed with Erick from the beginning, in that he had listened carefully to the preliminary information we presented to him concerning our project and what we hoped to accomplish and addressed all these details in his proposal. The proposal was well-organized and presented in a clear and concise manner. Understanding our desire to build a quality, custom home, Erick was careful to include materials in the proposal that met our high standards but also enabled us to adhere to the budget we had established. We also appreciated the additional upgrades and options included in the proposal for our consideration. It gave us “food for thought” that we might not have otherwise considered. We were given the opportunity to choose those items which were most relevant to us. When all was said and done, Erick completed the project on time and within budget. It is important to note that Erick did not present us with the lowest overall bid, but our confidence in his ability to provide us with the service and workmanship we were looking for was the major factor in our decision to build with Kurber Construction.

Having lived in our new home for over six months now, we are extremely pleased with the overall outcome. The house is everything we had envisioned. Erick understood our passion for detail and consistently produced work that reflected his desire to meet, and often surpass, our expectations. It is worth noting that my husband has been in the residential construction business for over 30 years. His level of experience and expertise makes him an excellent judge of quality and character. It is without reservation that we both highly recommend Kurber Construction. We have no doubt that Erick is an honest, hard-working professional whose goal is to partner with his customers in making their vision a reality.

Erick did a super job for us in a full condo remodel in Waukesha. We knew we could trust Erick to be professional, honest, and to deliver work of the highest quality. In fact, we valued his work so much that we brought him back for a garage remodel. He delivered on time, on budget, and with a great attitude. Erick offered advice on finishes and design when we asked, but also empowered us to make informed decisions without judgement. We had a great experience and highly recommend this family business to manage your project.

I strongly discourage using Kurber Construction for your home remodeling project. Our project started late and as a result, Erick took our house through the polar vortex uninsulated. He didn’t bother to let us know that our furnace was failing during the day and that he needed to bring in space heaters while he was working. Overnight, the furnace shut off again and a pipe froze and flooded our basement. He charged $2,049 to “mitigate” the flood even though our house was under his watch when it happened. His “mitigation” consisted of one dehumidifier and two fans, plus the emergency plumbing visit.

Right before we moved back in, the plumbers came to pressurize the pipes and discovered that there were leaks in the laundry room pipes from when the pipes froze over the winter. The finished and painted drywall had to be cut out so the pipes could be fixed. Erick said he wouldn’t charge extra since this was from the pipe breaking over winter and came back later the same day and said there would be an extra charge.

At the beginning of our project we agreed that my best friend who has been doing tile work professionally for 20 years would do our bathroom shower. Thank God he did because otherwise the shower would have had to be reframed because the boards Erick used were warped and out of plumb. They were close to 1” out of plumb in some places. When I put my level on the end board for the shower, he said it looked plumb even though the board looked like a crescent moon in the middle. My friend had to do a lot of extra mudding to properly level out the wall so that tile could be laid.

We ordered appliances but couldn’t have them moved in by the delivery people because our project was running behind. Shortly before move-in, Erick emailed my wife telling her that moving the appliances into the house was “out of scope” despite never telling either of us previously that this would be our responsibility. After talking with a handful of contractors afterward, they were shocked that a general contractor would make the homeowners move their own appliances into the house. Being in the trades, this shocked me too, especially given the $120,000+ price tag on our project.

We were also very surprised when my wife received a call from the plumbing fixture supplier telling her that there was an unpaid, past due balance and that they had the ability to place a lien on our home if the balance was not paid. At that point, Erick had been paid a little over $100,000!

Overall, our project with Kurber Construction was terrible. I do not recommend even getting a bid from Erick. I'd hate to see anyone else get taken advantage of like we were.
