We cannot begin to say how pleased we were with every step of our building experience with Jewell. Their concept of "everything is included" and "only building quality" was exactly what we were looking for and got. Each person on the Jewell team was professional, knowledgable and accommodating in every situation that came up. The system they have in place for keeping up communications with us was excellent; our questions were addressed immediately, explained clearly and they were always flexible in working with us. Most importantly we love the quality of the finishes and the beautiful home that they built for us. I will highly recommend them to anyone who is in the market to build.

My wife and I recently purchased a new home that needed some help to get it ready for our growing family. We had two projects with Jewell, a living room wall modification and a bathroom remodel. As you can see with my five star rating, both projects went extremely well.

What I appreciate the most about our experience with Jewell is the quality, communication and flexibility. Firstly, the work that was done on my home is top notch. Every trade that came into our house was knowledgeable and did high quality work. Second, working with Steve was a real pleasure. He always kept us updated on the work schedule and decisions that had to be made. He was able to explain to us (we aren’t very knowledgeable in construction) what was happening and why, while helping us make and decisions based on his many years of experience. Finally, as the bathroom project was being done, we had new ideas on how we wanted the bathroom to look. Jewell’s flexibility allowed us to get an extra, small closet that wasn’t originally part of the plan without impact to our budget or timeline.

Overall, great experience and highly recommended. I will turn to Jewell for any and all future home remodel projects.

My wife and I recently completed a new home build with Jewell Homes. We would NOT recommend working with Jewell Homes for new construction.

The red flags started from our very first design meeting (after signing a contract), we showed up to meet the designer and project manager and they had the wrong floor plan on the screen and seemed completely unprepared. This should have been an indicator of how our project would be run, as other documents we provided (such as HOA design requirements) were also missing from the initial design and proposal. Furthermore, we came to find out that Jewell hired an unlicensed geotechnical engineer to perform soil testing on our lot, producing an inaccurate soils report that resulted in change orders of almost $10,000 less than a week into our build, of which Jewell denied responsibility.

Over the course of our project, we had three different project managers because the one we were working with was either fired or quit. Each time there was a project handoff, the lack of communication became apparent as things got missed that had been communicated to the previous project manager. Luckily my wife and I are both in the construction industry so we were able to stay on top of things, despite little to no communication from our project managers. The whole process left us feeling that nobody from the builder was paying attention to our build.

Also, don’t be fooled by the accurate “no surprises” pricing that supposedly includes accurate site improvement allowances. In the last two months of our build we were hit with a nearly $12,000 change order for our well. Quick research on the DNR website shows that everyone in our neighborhood has wells that are 250 feet deep (or more) but Jewell only accounted for a 100 foot well in their bid because that's their “standard bid”. We also ended up over-paying for rough grading allowance, as well as several other categories that were sold to us as “all-inclusive”, accurate allowances.

Oh, and good luck getting Jewell to come back to fix anything after closing. It took over 16 months after closing on the house to get punch list items and significant warranty claims addressed. Our roof/fireplace leaked since install and the stone on the front of the house was falling off, and during that time period our emails and phone calls had been blown off.

Building a new home is supposed to be an enjoyable experience but at every opportunity, John Jewell and Jewell Homes have failed to live up to their mission statement of “enhancing the lives of every family they meet”.

Trust and flexibility were most important to us when selecting a builder and we felt John Jewell provided us with just that. Jewell Homes held our hands throughout the process and were always upfront about upgrades so there were never any hidden costs. The team is very knowledgeable on lot improvements, material selections and the building process. They told us our house would be done in 4.5 months and we were impressed they met the deadlines. Overall, Jewell Homes provided us with an excellent customer experience and they were fantastic with customizing the house just the way we wanted. I highly recommend Jewel homes and will use them if we decide to build again!

We searched for a home builder for years and chose Jewell Homes to build our dream home in 2011. We felt at ease with John Jewell and most importantly, we trusted that he and his team would build a quality home. Throughout the entire building process, Jewell Homes was engaged every step of the way. Jewell Homes builds custom homes, tailored to each customer, with no 2 houses being the same. They get to know you and your family and make suggestions/recommendations based on your family and lifestyle to ensure you are getting the house you want and fits your needs. All pricing was upfront and detailed, so you knew exactly what you were paying. No surprises, no hidden costs. We were impressed with their constant communication and most impressed with their timeline. We were told that the home would be move-in complete after 4 months from basement excavation and they stayed true to their word. 4 years later and we are still in love with our home. Jewell Homes did not build us a house, they build us a home, one for us to raise our family in and create memories in and we are so grateful to them for helping our vision become a reality.
