We had such a wonderful experience working with Heartland Building and Design on our bathroom remodel! From the very first phone call all the way through the end of our project, Meg and her team were exceptionally helpful, professional, prompt, and responsive.

Meg helped us to design a bathroom that worked with our needs and budget. She struck exactly the right balance of hearing us out on our ideas, explaining options and trade-offs, and giving expert advice and guidance. Crucially, she developed a highly accurate budget and timeline, and her team stuck closely to both, communicating clearly about any minor adjustments that were needed along the way. We were very nervous about budget surprises and overly optimistic timelines given the experiences of other people we know, and that was not at all the case with Heartland.

Meg's team of Heartland staff and subcontractors were punctual, respectful, and as unobtrusive as possible given the task. We have a curious cat, and all of the craftsmen were very careful to not accidentally let him escape. Across the board from plumbing to electrical to tile and beyond, we are so happy with the quality of work. My husband and I both work at home and it would have been easy for having contractors in and out all day turn into a major headache, but between Meg's top notch communication about what was happening when, and the contractors timely and respectful presence around our house, everything went far more smoothly than we could have imagined.

In short, Meg and the Heartland team are the best! We'll certainly be working with them in future projects.

When we decided to remodel the kitchen in our west side home in 2017, we were overwhelmed by the many details. We contacted Heartland Building and Design, and Meg was wonderful helping us modernize the colors and styles to for the cabinets, flooring, walls, and tile. We were so pleased, we decided to expand the project to include new flooring throughout the house.

We also used HBD last year to remodel our 2 bathrooms, including new shower tile, flooring, counter tops and cabinets. We are extremely pleased with the results. The work was completed on time and within our budget. Throughout these projects, the workers were always professional and easy to communicate with.

Based on our experience, we would gladly recommend HBD for similar projects.

Meg and Ralph did an excellent job renovating our basement. Our house is over 100 years old, and the basement reflected every bit of that at the start of the project. The work was intense, requiring that an egress window be cut into the foundation, the basement be waterproofed with a sump pump added, and much of the floor being taken up to rerun plumbing below the foundation. This was all before the usual framing, drywall, etc.

As should be expected when renovating a house as old as ours, there were some surprises along the way. With each of these, Meg and Ralph always helped us think through the options, discussed budget implications, and always met their cost projections. The finished product is amazing, and the basement now contains a spare bedroom, ¾ bath, laundry room, and playroom for our kids.

They’ve also been amazing with the tiny bit of post project support that has been needed. For example, a light switch in the bathroom stopped working, and they had the electrician out the next day to fix the issue for free. It turns out the switch itself was faulty. I’ve lived through several renovations in my life and worked with multiple contractors. Meg and Ralph are by far the best.

After diving into a DIY full basement remodel, we ran into some uncertainties regarding load bearing walls, framing and overall layout. We contacted Meg and the team at Heartland after getting a good review from friends, and they were able to help guide us along the project while working with our budget and still allowing us to maintain the diy attitude. They were friendly, professional and honest, drew up professional plans and load bearing header calculations for us to present for inspectors, and assisted with the more challenging framing components. Overall great experience and highly recommend.

We hired Heartland Building & Design to replace a fiberglass shower unit with tile and install the low threshold pan in our shower. They also replaced our bathroom countertop, sinks and faucets. Meg was helpful in finding tile and countertop samples so we could make a decision and was flexible enough to adapt to our last minute tile choice change. The schedule was provided and workmen prompt and courteous. We are very happy with the results and would recommend them to others.

Heartland Home Improvement came in with a well priced bid. Our job was scheduled and begun as promised. It took two more days than promised but the workmanship was well done on the roof. As the job progressed Tom suggested that our skylights needed replacing. We purchased the two windows and though they are functioning well, the install resulted in some cracked drywall. HHI repaired the crack but the patch is still clearly visible. A bit of a blemish on an otherwise good job.
