Prior to discovering that I needed Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and Aortic Valve Replacement Surgeries, I actively worked out at several Gyms and frequently Walked 4 or 5 days a week. While having a regularly scheduled Physical with my General Practitioner, an abnormal EKG resulted which led to Cardiac Catherization that showed three severely blocked arteries and Aortic Stenosis.
Although I live in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, my Cardiologist recommended I seek the advice for Surgical Treatment with Dr. Edward Chen, Cardiac Thoracic Chief Surgeon at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N C. Dr. Chen is a leading expert in Aortic Valve replacement as well as CABG.
The “Best Life Saving Decision” I have ever made was to trust that GOD had divinely led me to Dr. Chen. He and his team performed my Surgery on the morning of January 24, 2023 at Duke University Hospital.
Dr. Chen is personable, kind, and thoroughly detailed. During my pre-surgical appointment, he provided specific, clear explanations about how he would conduct the surgeries and what I could expect post surgery. Dr. Chen exhibits a “Patient Centric Focus,” which serves to assure you (the patient) that he will demand that every member of his team perform their assigned Medically Trained Tasks with absolute and total precision.
I am now two weeks post surgery and I feel no significant pain and am able to go for light walks and function fairly normally without assistance. I am independent and happy to be living normally with few limitations and caution.
Having Dr. Edward Chen perform my aforementioned surgeries was truly a GODSEND and I HIGHLY recommend him should you be considering or have a need to undergo this or any Coronary Thoracic surgical procedures. Well worth the travel expense from anywhere.

Respectfully,
Thomas Brown

Dr. Chen performed open heart surgery on me in 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta to replace ascending aortic aneurism and leaky aortic valve. Terrific surgeon. Humble, kind, empathetic.

Honestly, how often do you choose a surgeon? And even more how often do you have surgery?
I was fortunate that my sports cardiologist and Ed work together
He was referred to me by a client that happened to be a cardiologist-he refereed to Dr Chen as the Ninja Master/ The Best.
His staff is awesome- and so is Ed - he even has a warranty program/return policy that is unprecedented in the industry... that is a joke but I’m happy and alive because of Doctor Chen!!!

Chen is a talented surgeon but his staff leaves much to be desired. India, better know as the gatekeeper is defensive, unorganized and generally terrible at her job. If you can see another surgeon, I'd recommend going elsewhere mostly to avoid scheduling errors and miscommunications due to poor staffing.

Dr. Chen saved my stepmoms life. Her aortic aneuysm would not “hold”and each time she was taken off the heart lung machine, it would leak. And back on the machine she would go - THREE times. After the 2nd time, we, the family were told that it was not looking good. That she couldn’t stay on the heart lung machine much longer and survive. Had Dr. Chen not had the expertise and speed and experience from countless aortic repairs performed in the past, we are convinced she would not have lived. She did. And that was over 4 years ago. THANKyou, Dr. Chen and prayers and this Miracle!

We have waited four+ weeks to see Dr. Chen. My husband has an ascending aortic anuerysm that needs fixing now. The day of our appt, we drove 2 hours to ATL only to be called by his office as we arrived in ATL, that the appt was cancelled due to a medical emergency. My husband explained that we've been waiting - and understand other emergencies come up, but we would like to be prioritized asap. His office called two days later to reschedule - at the end of OCT! This is 10 weeks out! Unacceptable!! Our insurance company recommended another cardiovascular surgeon next week with high ratings. Quite frankly, it is probably for the best. Don't wait, people! Get someone else!
