21 years ago, Jose Castillo and his crew remodeled our house. Well, technically it was a remodel because we left three of the exterior walls intact, but Jose pretty much gutted the whole house, added some extensions, and rebuilt the whole house.

Jose's prices were competitive, and his crew was very efficient. Two things stood out about Jose's work:

1) I was onsite most days, checking on the work, and I noticed every day, the crew would take about half an hour at the end of the day cleaning up the work site. Now if this was my site, I would leave everything messy, since we're going to work the next day and make a mess again, but Jose's crew cleaned and swept the whole site at the end of each day.

2) Jose did wonders with scheduling inspections with the city. If an inspection was coming up, Jose would call for an inspection a few days before he was done, and would always be finished the day before inspection. Anyone who has to work with the City of San Jose's inspectors knows how long it can take to schedule an inspection - Jose anticipated these delays and factored them into his work schedule. Remember I mentioned we gutted the whole house? Jose's crew took 4 months to finish the job, from start of demolition to our starting to move in. I attribute this both to Jose's foresight and to his crew's efficiency.

The following 21 years have been a testament to Jose's crew's quality of workmanship. Yes, there have been minor repairs needed, as would any house that's been lived in and loved well (and Jose has always been great about recommending a good subcontractor with the minor repairs we've needed), but we've raised two kids in this house and built plenty of memories, thanks to Jose's work.

Mr. Castillo did an ADU for us recently. He works fast and is always available. He works at the site everyday and his crew worked ahead of schedule. He did a great job with our ADU.

You want a great Contractor, Jose Castillo is your guy! We hired Castillo Construction to add a front Portico to our home. From start to finish, it was the best contractor experience we've ever had. Jose is very professional, reasonable, always responsive, timely, honest, kind and above all a perfectionist. His team of guys are also great. My wife and I are very pleased with the workmanship and outcome. We get constant compliments from neighbors and friends about the Portico and we’ve already recommended Castillo Construction to many. Castillo Construction has exceeded our expectations and we plan to use him again in the near future for another project. I highly recommend them!

We worked with Castillo to build an extension many years ago. Since we had a good experience, we recently worked with him to build a detached ADU. Castillo will take care of of all aspects of the project so we don't have to worry. If there are any changes required, he will charge a fair price and take care of it. For example, the city made us change approved drawings due to a code update. Castillo found the best, most cost effective way to meet code and pass inspection. Castillo is also good at getting inspections scheduled so the project keeps moving along. Usually the city is booked weeks in advance but we never had issues that cause delays.

He always has good ideas to make small modifications to elevate the taste of a house. I highly recommend him to remodel your home if you need to look for a good GC.

Jose did a garage conversion for us back in 2017, and he did a great job. I've actually done quite a bit of home construction/remodeling myself, so I realized early on that this guy knows what he's doing. And what I appreciated most about Jose is his ability to foresee issues in advance and actually build step-by-step in the right order to prevent rework. I've hired other contractors for other jobs, and the others ALWAYS made mistakes from rushing to get the job done and move on to the next one. Jose would also point out things in the drawings that "didn't seem right" such as a spec for only one outlet on a given wall or how adding another sky light would make the room much brighter, etc., and the added costs were reasonable. Hence, I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for construction to be done right the first time for a reasonable cost.
