we had CalAdu build us a 20’x25’ ADU with a bedroom, a utility room with washer and dryer, a full kitchen and a nice living room.

I was looking for a firm to design and obtain the necessary building permits for an ADU duplex on a rental property. Their design was perfect for the property and my budget, they kept me updated on the progress and promptly responded to my inquiries. Not only was Cali ADU one fourth the cost of a competitors bid, the entire process from start to a building permit in hand, was less than 120 days. I would not hesitate to use them again.

I set up a meeting to talk to them about two weeks ago and they never attended. I contacted them at the time and multiple times since to reschedule and they have been unresponsive and have ignored me. I can see that they have seen my messages but have not responded. This is very unprofessional.

UPDATE: Charlie reached out to me and has done an amazing job working to make this right. I have decided to hire him and we will see how it goes.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Charlie and Bernice have really worked hard on my project. Aside from the beginning communication issue (due to technical problems I was told), they really have been wonderful and Bernice has been very communicative. My plan permits are now ready to issue and I couldn’t be happier. I would recommend them to everyone.

We had a TERRIFIC experience with Charlie at Cali ADU. He was efficient, communicative and provided us with great blueprints for our garage conversion. Whenever the city had corrections, he was right on top of it responding and resubmitting. Highly recommend working with him.

I am so happy we chose Cali Adu to design and build our garage ADU. Charlie Melvin is exactly as easy to work with as he seems when you first meet him. The consistent communication is so appreciated, and the outstanding quality of their work is exactly like the pictures we saw in the Cali Adu online portfolio.

One of the stand-out features of our project was the faux garage door they built modeled after a garage I loved in our neighborhood. I think it's stunning and I love looking at it when I drive up to the house.

Additionally, Edgar is an outstanding foreman who lead the day to day construction activities on site. He pays attention to details and has expertise in many trades.

I strongly recommend Cali Adu for both design and construction. We got several bids for the construction phase after Cali Adu designed our unit, and also selecting them to build the ADU was the best decision we made. Our ADU is beautiful.

We worked with Charlie from Cali ADU, who we engaged to draft our ADU . Initially,, we worked with him to draft the ideas, but ultimately determined he was the best person to carry out the work. Charlie is professional, and he was always accessible when we had questions. He is adaptable and patient with changes. My wife and I highly recommend Charlie.
