My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Taylor on the renovation of our home a couple years ago, and I can honestly say the experience was nothing short of outstanding. BaseCamp Design Workshop is a wonderful resource for creatively and carefully reimagining existing structures and for starting from scratch to develop properties at landscape scale.

We worked with Taylor on renovating the first floor of our deeply flawed 1957 colonial in South Portland, while removing all net fossil use from the home, while adding a deck and sauna to an existing garage roof.

Taylor is a really unique talent, especially because he balances qualities that are often in tension:

Taylor is very squared-away, process-oriented and formal, in a good way. But at the same time he's also very open-minded, flexible and nimble at approaching change.

Ego is a word often thrown around about architects, and Taylor has a strong creative vision, good taste, and a very confident approach to his work. Yet he's always focused on good outcomes for the client, and is not reluctant to kill his darlings to meet budget or achieve client goals.

I have also worked with Taylor's shop on the creation of a campground on a 36-acre property in western Maine, and can also attest to Taylor's superb skill at quickly and efficiently talking about goals, doing a site survey, generating quick useful iterations on plans, and helping finalize structure, system, and circulation design under very tight budget constraints. Taylor is a great person to talk with, design with and pound corner stakes with when the design needs a tweak before the excavator gets fired up.

Taylor Massey is an architect's architect. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of sustainable design and balances that with what I feel is truly excellent taste. Taylor designed a "tiny house" for me currently under construction on an island in coastal Maine, and not only has he been unfailingly wonderful to work with, he brings a ton of true vision, knowledge, craft, and collegiality. Taylor redesigned our house in Portland, ME which was originally from 1907. It is amazing and I could never imagine having the vision that he did. He pays so much attention to detail and does not settle for "kinda ok" but makes sure to be very thorough in every aspect of his design.
