As President of the Sunset Pointe Homeowners Association, maintaining the safety, security and home values of our community are always top of mind. When our streets were recently repaved, and the existing speed humps removed, we needed to hire an engineer to draw up plans for new speed humps that would meet the safety concerns of our residents, along with meeting all the new regulations implemented by the City of Pembroke Pines Engineering Division.

Our initial conversations with Chris were very straightforward and professional, but it was not long before we became friends as well. Considering we are an all-volunteer board with no experience in dealing with speed hump design, construction, and installation, not to mention city regulations, we relied heavily on Chris and his expertise as a subject matter expert. Unfortunately, this project was taking place in the mist of the COVID-19 global pandemic, so the City of Pembroke Pines, like every other city, was extremely backed up on permitting approvals.

Little did I know, Chris was expecting his first-born child the same week as our meeting was scheduled with the city, but Chris was there! And after some healthy conversations with the engineers, Chris tweaked the plans and we were given the green light to install the much-needed safety speed humps in our community. Within a couple of weeks, the project was completed, and we passed the final inspections from the City of Pembroke Pines Engineering Division Standards and Specifications awarding us our final, officially approved permit.

We later learned that it had been years since the City of Pembroke Pines Engineering Division had awarded a permit for speed humps within a sub-division. Enough thanks cannot go out to Chris for all his efforts on bring this project full circle.

I highly recommend Smyth Engineering. I worked directly with Christopher Smyth and it was a pleasure throughout the entire process. Upon request, he quickly set up a meeting at my property which has been affected with water damage. He showed up on time and was complete and thorough in his study of the indemnifications and the source(s) of water entry. He assessed the condo unit from the inside and from the outside. He explained his findings and promptly provided me with a report which not only documented his findings but gave recommendations on next steps and possible solutions. Furthermore, he proved not only be knowledgeable in his field but just as important to be ethical in his work. Not only do I recommend Mr. Smyth, but I can assure you that if I again need to consult with a civil engineer, it will certainly be him.
