I had lonny and his crew re model our bathroom and it turned out to be a nightmare.

They installed my tub incorrectly, he didn’t want to admit it. After repeated attempts to have him fix it. He sent me a bill for work that did nothing to remedy the problem.

My bathtub ended up cracking on the floor and needing to get a surface specialist out to install a new floor in to the tub.

I ended up calling the bathtub manufacturer, the city inspector and other trade professionals to verify everything I said. Which they did.

They also had a couple of small things that are frustrating when you’re spending 20k on a remodel. Which is they didn’t clean up the grout after install very well and the grout lines were quite uneven on the floor.

The city inspector had already “closed the permit” so he couldn’t do anything to hold Lonny accountable. Which really sucks. Not sure why we pay city inspectors if they “trust” the contractor and aren’t actually inspecting the work.

From my experience, Heartwood Construction takes no ownership of their mistakes and I will never recommend them to anyone.

We used Heartwood for an upstairs remodel in the spring of 2020 to add spray foam insulation to the top floor our 80 year old house to address our chronic ice dam and water intrusion problems. The project had it's share of surprises and unexpected issues, but none were the fault of Heartwood. Lonny was always courteous and professional in helping us through the process, respecting our decisions and providing guidance and recommendations when necessary. I work on the commercial construction side of the building industry and approached the project with an intention to keep the contractor accountable, but it turned out to be unnecessary. Heartwood did a great job and the upstairs is much warmer and cozier this winter compared to last.

Being fairly new to the Duluth area we were unfamiliar with any of the companies that do remodeling. Fortunately, we followed a family recommendation and contacted Heartwood Construction for an estimate. Now, we are more than pleased to also recommend Heartwood. From the moment we met Grant, our project manager, we were comfortable that he understood exactly what our vision for a kitchen remodel was. Heartwood Construction built a second bathroom in our house. Our space was limited. We wanted it on the first floor. Lonnie worked with us to create the design. Paul did the carpentry, building, sheet-rocking, painting, and integrating the main floor bath into the style of the house. He did custom millwork to match the door and window frames. He did extra work to address a leak from the upstairs water pipe. High quality workmanship! I also like that Heartwood has reliable plumbers and electricians that coordinate with them. All in all, the project was done quickly. We couldn't be happier with the results. I highly recommend Heartwood!

I emailed Lonny we had a minor upstairs toilet leak. Lonny was here early the next morning to diagnose and prepare for the bathroom repairs. Wow, what a quick response! The leak was wetting our kitchen ceiling.
Paul installed a temporary fix the next day, then came back, figured out corrections for the plumbing issues and with just a bit of plumber help, completed all the necessary bathroom repairs. Paul also put down new flooring. The finished bathroom looks really great.

We've been working with Heartwood Construction for about four years now. When we purchased our house it was in foreclosure status and a ton of work was needed to make it a comfortable home. Heartwood was not only very accommodating to our requests, but they also gave proper suggestions when it was very evident that I barely knew anything about construction. Apparently, there were many small DIY "projects" that the previous owner decided to take on that were clearly "learning through doing".

Throughout the years, Heartwood Construction has:
- Removed a sliding glass door (that was installed by cutting into the header beam, causing the roof to bow and a fight just to open the door) and replaced it with two large egress windows along with the rest of the wall and repaired the header
- Installed T&G wooden siding on the wall surrounding the egress windows
- Replaced all of the plumbing with PEX tubing, prevents pipes from freezing
- Spray-foamed insulation the crawlspace, additionally prevents frozen pipes
- Removed or arranged the removal of various small structures and large items that were abandoned in our woods before we moved in.
- Replaced the air conditioner unit and fixed the central air system
- Installed a window frame and found and fixed a major leak in the roof when doing so, no problems since
- Installed an ADA compliant ramp and large deck on the front of the house
- Arranged plumbers to replace the toilets and a couple faucets
- Arranged electricians to make sure all of the outlets are grounded
- Installed brand new siding, which included moving the entire back deck and replaced any rotten wood from said deck
- Arranged the installation of a home standby generator
- A bunch of other things I'm probably forgetting

We've been extremely satisfied with all of Heartwood Construction's hard work and professional expertise. Lonny Anderson is very knowledgeable about his trade and will not hesitate to give you an honest and thorough assessment. He's also quite skilled at seeing what the client has envisioned through the scope of practicality first, then aesthetic. When we've had some pressing matters, Lonny came to the house to assess and got one of his workers to fix the issue within a few hours of discovering the initial problem.
I've also hired him to help out my dad with several plumbing/electrician jobs, and requests their aide at the first sign of potential home repair.

The staff that works under Lonny are also very courteous and accommodating to the clients and their schedules. Working both inside and outside of the house, they do their best to not be a nuisance to the clients and their neighbors.

As far as general pricing goes, they are fair and reasonable for the amount of high-quality work that you can look forward to. You get what you pay for. Since we bought the place in 2018, our property value has almost tripled in value from Heartwood's work, upon general assessment.

We have several more projects lined up with them for the next couple of years and will continue to promote them in passing conversation. If anyone needs work done around their house, from small but difficult things to large projects with multiple parts, I highly suggest Heartwood Construction as their go-to.

If we could give 6 stars to Heartwood Construction, we would. Lonny is an exceptional project manager. His communication skills are top-notch. He is organized, consistent, detailed, timely, proactive, and has a positive attitude and great sense of humor. We were so grateful for his deep knowledge of both the construction industry and the insurance process, as well as his calm demeanor, during our really stressful house fire event. We can’t speak highly enough of his approach. And his crew, especially Mike and Al, did quality work, had great attention to details, were respectful of our space, were excellent problem-solvers, and were just delightful to visit with during the project. We always felt confident that they were doing what was best for our home and not cutting corners. We highly recommend Heartwood Construction to all our family and friends.
