I love going here! There was unfortunately some restrictions this visit due to wildlife, but I'm so glad the park prioritizes the species that need this location.

I love getting to see the preserved historical sites and read about them. I'm very glad these have not been sold off to private owners, and that active preservation is ongoing.

I know Montezuma's castle is much more advertised, but this is absolutely the star of the show. The concrete walkways and sidewalk trails make this a very accessible park.

The shaded bottom is such a nice place to spend a minute resting and listening to the river.

Best advice, go early. You will miss more of the traffic from Phoenix and you will see more wildlife.

Classic ancient well with some interesting ecology within it - no fish, but a swarm of leech! The trail going up to the well, as well down to the lowest levels is pretty good. There are a lot of steps, but it’s a fun activity with kids with some adult help. The views from different points of the trail leading to the lower parts of the well are very pretty. There are are also spots where one can see how the ancient cave dwellers lived around the well - very similar to what you see at Walnut Canyon and Montezuma Castle. Highly recommend visiting this place, which is a short drive from Montezuma Castle.

We enjoyed our visit very much. We came after visiting the castle. We brought our dog and enjoyed the paved walking path loop very much. It was very peaceful and there were many descriptive plaques along the self guided path. We saw everything in about 25 minutes, well worth the visit. There is no admission fee but the gates close at 4:45 so be cognizant of the time.

Great easy free paved hike. FYI, there are inclines and stairs and some uneven stones near the well. Don't pass up taking the stairs down to the river and manmade canal.

Nice State Park. Lots of hiking, with steep steps. The well, and outlet are beautiful. Lots of sun, be sure to have sun protection. The park ranger was super sweet with our grand daughter.

On another trip I visited Montezuma castle so this time it’s all about the well. I really enjoyed learning about the water feature and the different dwellings. There’s a short 1/3 mile blue pike that allows you to take in all of the major sites. A side trail takes you down to the waters outlet. We visited on a slightly overcast day, which made it very comfortable, but still required a hat, sunscreen and water. The park ranger was very helpful in orienting us to the sites and the animals of the area. There’s a toilet and plenty of parking.
