My 50+ year old well pump was short-cycling, so I requested an estimate via their website. I got a call the next morning, and they had a team onsite by 9AM. Two friendly, professional guys diagnosed the problem quickly, addressed it at minimal expense, and saved me from what I was sure would be an expensive pressure tank replacement. They walked me through exactly what they did to solve the problem, and showed me how to take care of it myself next time. It's very rare that I find a contractor that I would recommend without reservation, but these guys are fantastic. I'd give them 6 stars if I could. My dog liked them, too!

We had our water heater go out and that started our plumbing adventure. Our home is 40 years old and greatly in need of updates. However the last thing we expected was the well pump to go right after the heater was replaced. But it did on a Thursday . We were able to get Groth out after we called our plumber who had been over recently and he said it sounded like a well issue. They came Friday to at least see what we needed. Which meant squeezing us into the schedule. This whole problem took us through 3 water samples and flushing and replacing the well tank and chlorinating then rechlorinating the well in order to get an acceptable water test. We have spent about six weeks without potable water. You never realize how much you miss drinking water out of the faucet until you can’t. During this entire time Fred and his sons really came through. Oh and in between the water softener had to be replaced. Groth was patient with us and very understanding. I can’t say how pleased I am with their service. And now I can drink my water. Thank you Groth Wells.

Groth Water wells.

We had a new water well installed by Groth Water Well Co.; we could not have found a better company to work with. The old well was in a basement alcove. Jim Groth came by several weeks later to review the work involved and give us an estimate.
What a nice guy! He was pleasant, meticulous, and conversational. He offered us alternatives but pointed out pros and cons. We could have the connection to the well through lateral drilling by another company. We have a new 5” concrete driveway, but he promised to do everything possible to minimize/avoid driveway damage when bringing a 30-ton rig over it. Jim came back several times to review everything, the driveway, how to bring in the rig, etc. He was always punctual and gave us a heads up when he was close enough.
Work began 2 weeks ago, with Jason Groth, the head of one of their crews, as “foreman.” Jason was excellent! For us, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience [I suppose it had better be]. He didn’t mind my being close to the work area as long as I was at a safe distance and was careful. He explained every step of the work and potential for problems ahead. From years of experience, these were cautionary things and with the principle of “forewarned is forewarned.”
Jason and his associate, Nick, were a very superbly coordinated team. Nick knew what Jason needed at every turn and would have the appropriate item without Jason having to ask. They were focused on their work with no loose chatter, and helped each other out to keep the work moving in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
Jason did excellent work of drilling down to about 205ft. and installing almost 165ft. of steel casing. Each 20-foot piece had to be welded to the next one, onsite, and at their beveled ends,, and the welding had to be perfect to avoid any water seeping into the well from the surrounding soil. He was calm, professional, and nothing less than meticulous.

The lateral drilling was done by Sam Becker [Becker-McLeod, Menomonee Falls]. The precision of this technique was beyond belief. The drill came into the alcove exactly where it was supposed to surface. Becker also worked in tandem, and in coordination with Jason.
The entire work took almost 6 days. The old well had to be sealed and abandoned in compliance with DNR and municipal standards. The village inspector came by and “anointed”the work. Every step was accomplished without a hitch. The Groths believe in doing it right the first time.

They cleaned the work areas after themselves. The yard has some tire tracks because of recent rain over a clay soil that causes the tires to spin. The soil is heaped up around the well. However, we anticipated these per their advice. The soil has to settle over the next few months of rain and snow and rain, and the tire tracks have to be filled in with topsoil, graded, and reseeded with grass.

The alcove, with the new water tank and connections, was clean and tidy when Jason and Nick left. Jason warned us of the dust and that the CO alarms might go off as he cut through the casing of the old well with an acetylene torch, but nothing happened. Jim came by periodically, even did some work himself, and made sure everything was done properly and to our satisfaction.

We think their costs were reasonable. Even if they were a tad higher, we would rather pay that difference in order to have peace of mind, and for the knowledge that they never took shortcuts, operated safely, and did every piece of work—even the itty-bitty stuff—by the book. They meticulously avoided contaminating the new pump.

Their charges were wuite reasonable and they sent a detailed estimate that Jim was willing to explain and justify. He also explained carefully what This family-owned business puts their imprimatur on their work only when they are confident of the quality of their work.

One wishes that all contractors and workmen operate this way. They 1. stand behind their work, 2. are out to please, and 3. are reasonable with cost. They have our highest recommendations.

After having plumbers unsuccessfully attempt to discover our low water pressure, Groth Water knew the exact problem. Steve was very knowledgeable and professional. Never call a plumber if you have well issues. Groth in Cedarburg is second to none.

On the Friday morning after Thanksgiving we were suddenly no longer getting any water from our faucets. I called our usual plumbing and heating company (one of the larger firms operating in Ozaukee County) but they weren't able to get to us until after normal business hours. After spending an hour testing electrical components in the control panel the technician said our pump seemed okay but we needed to replace a capacitor that they didn't have in stock or could get quickly. He suggested we try giving Groth a call. Of course it was now 6:30 on Friday evening of Thanksgiving weekend, but I called the Groth emergency contact number and left a message, hoping to get a call back early Saturday morning. To my surprise, Fred (the owner, I believe) called back within 15 minutes. After explaining what the other tech had said, Fred suggested our 30 year old pump was probably no good, but I could probably just get the new electrical components from their shop and install it myself to test it. I asked if I could pick it up that next morning, and again to my surprise, Fred said it would be better if I came by the shop that night (since they weren't working that weekend) and he would meet me there in 30 minutes (7:30 on a Friday night). We did that. He gave me the new electrical panel--trusting me to pay for it later, since they didn't accept credit cards and I didn't bring a check. I took it home and installed it, but still no luck; so I called Fred back and he set us up for first thing that Monday morning. Fortunately we were able to get running water to the house for the weekend by connecting a hose from our wonderful neighbors' outdoor faucet to our own.
Monday morning Steve and another technician showed up and confirmed that the control panel and the pump were both bad. I should add that our house was built in the 1860s, so nothing is ever routine when it comes to repairs, and they did run into some unanticipated complications; but they dealt with everything--including making a call to Fred to bring in some extra equipment, so at one time we had three people working to get us up and running. Eventually all was well (pun intended) and we were back to normal.
I can't speak highly enough of the professional service and attention that Groth gave to us. I can't give a rating as to their fees, but compared to the bill we got from Company X for an hour which accomplished nothing for us, Groth seemed like a relatively good value, if only to get someone who knew what they were doing and did the job professionally and courteously.

We recently bought a home and wanted the well water to be tested before moving in. We were referred to Groth Water Wells by our realtor and we couldn't be happier with the service we received! Fred was kind, thorough, and knowledgable. This is our first home with a well so we were grateful for his expertise. Definitely recommend!
