I recently contracted CG Engineering to redo a set of plans for a simple covered deck. At first, they seemed knowledgeable and confident, assuring me they could handle the full scope of work. Based on those promises, I paid a down payment and moved forward.

Eventually, I received site plans and structural calculations and submitted them to the city. That’s when I found out they had completely left out the architectural drawings something I had clearly communicated from the beginning. As a result, the city stopped my project.

By this point, I was already $2,925 into what should’ve been a straightforward job. When I called to address the issue, my project manager, Carolyn, couldn’t have cared less. She claimed she had “fulfilled her end of the contract” and pointed me back to the original company I hired CG to replace. Then no joke she went on vacation.

When she finally got back, I voiced my frustration. And just when I thought things couldn’t get more ridiculous, I got an email from a guy named Chevy Chase (yes, really), who dismissed all of my concerns and basically blamed me for being “confused” about their scope of work.

Eventually, I sat down with him to go over everything. The city had a few more questions, so we agreed CG would finish the job. We discussed numbers and what it would take to wrap things up. But then, out of nowhere, I got another invoice almost double what we had talked about have it in email…. At this point, I was pissed, but I needed the work done, so I paid the extra $3,690.

Then I received an email clearly not meant for me asking the crew if I had paid yet. Just another reminder that all these guys care about is getting every dollar they can.

CG Engineering delivered bare-minimum service, took no accountability, and clearly puts profit before customer care.

I won’t be using them again and if you value your time, money, and sanity, I strongly suggest you don’t either.

Throughout the entire project CG has done an absolute terrible job with communication and timeliness. Our project was delayed significantly in permitting and significantly during construction all because the engineer could not be bothered to respond to our GC's (or our) emails or phone calls. I would absolutely fire them at this point if they weren't already the engineers on record for our build. Steer clear, never work with CG.
