Our experience with Mitch and his team was positive and peaceful- we had gotten the run around from several other builders who promised things and couldn’t deliver. Our home is beautiful, inside and out. There were hiccups, as to be expected, but HSH came through with every fix they could. It’s incredibly stressful to spend this amount of time and money on a project, but I always felt like HSH was transparent and helpful at every turn.
Our home took a little longer than we were told to expect, which in this market is understandable. It was about 9 months from ground breaking to moving in.
One thing we were disappointed with was the changing of roles which happened frequently during our build- our site manager and procurement manager changed hands a few times which made things a little bumpy to communicate effectively.
Overall, I’d recommend HSH.

We had a great experience working with Mitch and his team to build our house. We had never been through the home building process before, let alone a complete custom build. His team did a great job, from start to finish to help us through the process. We couldn't be happier with the result. We really appreciated the flexibility that Mitch provides to use an particular vendor or sub.
Our project manager, Jordan, was fantastic to work with and kept us involved with every step of the process. He was very easy to work with and did a fantastic job helping us understand each step of the process and answering the many questions we had a long the way. We had some particular challenges due to the home being under construction during part of the past winter when we had so much extra snow. Jordan did a great work dealing with those challenges and managed the schedule to keep everything on time.
The procurement manager, Sabine, was very helpful to work with. Together, she and Jordan were able to keep us on track and on time with the many decisions that needed to be made at each step of the process.
Mitch has been building homes for many years and it shows in the great relationships he has built up with vendors, subs, financing, etc.
Just a fantastic experience all around.

We have now built twice with Mitch and his team and have convinced two other family members to build with them. These guys are amazing. They build beautiful custom homes at prices that other custom home builders can't touch. Jason was our foreman on our first build and did an excellent job. Jordan was the foreman of our second build and we were very impressed. When making such a large investment, there can be a lot of anxiety about progress and costs. Both Jordan and Jason kept us updated regularly and we were never left guessing about costs or progress. They will still check in regularly to make sure we are satisfied with the builds and address any questions or concerns. Their build process is very organized and they give you a price and completion date early on and they stick to it. We have friends who used another builder whose completion date kept getting moved and who ended up with many unexpected expenses. We were so glad we built with Mitch and his team and would do it again in a heartbeat.

This review and my previous version are all about their building process and nothing to do with comission as Jake claims I mentioned to him in one phone call I was paid 1% instead of the 3% I was promised that is all. The review I wrote was all about their building process and the on time promise. How can you count it as finished if you still have a punch list, it was like pulling teeth to get things done after they got their money, however they did finish roughly 5 months later. So roughly 7 months to build....loinger then promised and the promise kept changing it was 6 months from digging the hole to 6.5 months after the flat work is finished, but roughly 7 months to build and 5 months to finish the punch list. In my opinion it isn't finished until it is completely finished including the punch list, so just know your definition of on time and theirs will probably be completely different.
There is nothing more slimy then to pay to have things done and then have the builder not do them.(I've heard they are now mostly done after 5 more months of waiting). I wouldn't give Home Sweet Home by Mitch a penny until they have EVERYTHING completed unless you want to go through a hassle getting them done. Buyer has patiently waited for 5 months to have items completed that should have been done BEFORE they moved in.
I could go on and on I guess what it amounts to is I HATE how they do business.
I had a review prior to this one, but in texting back and forth with Jake and the promises made I deleted it. HSH did nothing for a couple months so I did this review It seems as if the motivating factor to get things done is a negative review, super frustrating and disappointing. So as you're reading these reviews ask yourself. If you were to pay someone over a million dollars to do a job for you, when should they have everything complete, 2 months after?, a year? or should they have it complete before they receive the money? In this industry they should have it complete BEFORE, before you sign on the home and complete the transaction. 99% of builders do this, Home Sweet Home is the ONLY builder I have ever had this experience with, from a couple reviews we weren't the only ones. Why weren't they complete BEFORE they received their money? How is it HONEST to drag people through the mud and make them write a review to get them out there?. I've been notified that Jake emailed my Buyers today, the day after my review to have their punch list items made a priority, apparently 1.1 something million from Buyer wasn't enough.and making it a priority still meant 5 months waiting, how long would it have been without the review and him making it a priority?). I find it super disappointing and frustrating when people won't just live up to their word, which would have been to have it all done by Settlement (closing). So ask yourself what type of person do you want to work with?
** Yes Jake you are correct, Buyer had a rate lock they needed to close (which were based off the timelines and promises, plus your on time guarantee given by HSH), you were beyond the promised 6 1/2 month build time (so why weren't punch list items finished?) we could no longer wait for HSH. I'm glad you finished the punch list items after 5 months, you promised 6 1/2 months to build a home and then it takes 5 months for a fraction of the work, people can probably imagine the headache. We'll see now if you fix the squeeky floors. Also the Owner didn't WANT to do the hooks in the mud room and other items, YOU DIDN'T do them so he had to.
review not reflective of you as a builder?, not true, I've told you several times I don't like how you do business. I wouldn't bother writing a review about commission, I'd just warn brokers/agents(yes that is being done). This review is to educate the public on who they are doing business with. Um gaslight much?.
The last conversation we had, I asked why someone who contracted after my buyers would get priority to them? my buyers completed their end of the contract, why didn't you?

Home Sweet Home by Mitch built our custom home one year ago. As advertised, they were On Time and On Budget. We worked with a home design company and Mitch to draw up house plans that fit our current needs. Scotty Halls was the first person we met when we called about a lot for sale. He was very helpful with real estate and made things happen quickly. Jordan Brownlee was our project manager. He is an exceptional worker and takes pride in getting the job done on time. He was responsive to our calls and questions. Most of the contractors did nice work. We like the energy efficiency of our home.

My wife and I took a big risk and decided to sell a home and build a custom home in a very unstable market with high rates. While our home was still for sale, we started looking at land and interviewing builders. We talked with at least 5 custom home builders. They all had their good qualities, but none of them had that special ingredient we were looking for. By pure coincidence, or maybe call it fate, a project manager with Home Sweet Home(Jordan Brownlee) stumbled across us while we were looking at a lot. We only talked for about 30 seconds, but there was just something special about the guy. Eventually we contacted Home Sweet Home and set up a meeting with the owner Mitch and his team. The meeting went amazing. Their team is like family, and we immediately felt like family. My wife and I had a vision of our new home but could not find a floor plan anywhere that fit our needs. I asked Mitch if we could create our own floor plan, he said of course! We then explained our needs and wants to Mitch. In about 2 minutes he had a preliminary price, and the price was very fair compared to other builders. Approximately 100k less than other estimates.
We then met with Tyler Halls, one of their agents. He helped us purchase an incredible lot in a highly sought after area. He was able to negotiate the lot down 160k from market value. Since then, Tyler became an amazing resource and friend. I would call him with tough questions and he always found an answer. He also referred us to a lender(Gary)who saved us 1% on our rate. At the time rates were 7.5%. Gary locked us in at 6.5%. This wasn't a rate buy down either. No other bank could come close to his rate.
Mitch and his team have worked together for over a decade. They were excellent communicators and extremely knowledgeable. They have a unique system you won't find with other builders. As your project progresses, they invite all the relevant managers to the meetings so nothing gets missed. Most builders play the telephone game and important details are overlooked or forgotten about.
Once our project started, Jordan was assigned as our project manager. We were very excited to work with him. He told us HSH has a strict goal of completing your home in 6 months, and they met it! Our home was completed on time! Jordan was absolutely amazing! He was very good at communicating! We met at the house several times a week and went over every detail of the build. If something was missed or done wrong, he immediately contacted the contractor and corrected it. No questions asked. He's also a scheduling guru! He has a gift with juggling tasks and holds the contractors accountable for timelines. If he says framing starts next Tuesday, then framing starts next Tuesday. Jordan is very detail oriented and truly listened to us. If we drew our window design on a paper plate, he would understand it and make it happen. Jordan was always available and even answered our calls and texts late at night. My wife also loved him! Jordan's wife and my wife were pregnant at the same time, so that was pretty special. He always asked my wife how she was feeling and took genuine interest in our lives. I cannot speak highly enough about Jordan! He brought our dream home to life, and we consider him a lifelong friend.
We also had the pleasure of working with Sabine. Sabine is the Procurement Manager for Home Sweet Home. She's the mastermind behind ALL of your selections, such as your exterior siding, cabinets, flooring, plumbing fixtures, paint color etc, etc, etc. Sabine was incredible to work with! She had an elaborate system of notes and spreadsheets that somehow kept all of our selections organized. My wife and I often times forgot to make certain selections or slacked, but Sabine kept track of everything and made sure we were able to make decisions on time. Thinking about the complexities of her job made my head spin, but she acted like it was nothing. She's very likeable and super easy to communicate with! She's a major asset to Home Sweet Home.
We cannot recommend Home Sweet enough! Character limit exceeded?

Posting this review 2 years later after building with Mitch and his team. Our biggest problem with them is the constant run around with our punch list items, specifically the concrete work and settling issues we’re having. Our front stairs have fallen off our foundation, and our driveway is hollow underneath. In speaking with other builders and concrete professionals, they’ve never seen it this bad.
Edit Updated from a 1 star to a 4 star overall experience. We really like Mitch and his crew, just unfortunate that there was some poor representation throughout the punch list process and post move in with all of our settling issues. The two employees are no longer with HSH, so that should improve their follow up drastically. Thank you for our beautiful home, Mitch!

We met with Home Sweet Home by Mitch to discuss prospective lots. They lied to us in our first meeting and said the only money down we would need to pay prior to the construction loan was $3k to hold the lot and then another $3k once the home plans were designed. Turns out they wanted $150k as a lot deposit and just conveniently left that part out.
We had a secondary meeting set up which they cancelled the day of. On the day of the rescheduled meeting we were running late. The meeting was supposed to last from 1-2pm. We called 10 minutes before 1:00 and let them know we'd be 20 min late, and they said they wanted to reschedule so we could have a full hour. We said we we had already driven 25 minutes to get there and would like to meet from 1:20-2:00 and just ask some questions about the lot and the down payment. They told us Mitch had already left to do something else and wouldn't be able to meet with us. Apparently no one else at the company can answer questions?
I'm frustrated with the whole process and lack of transparency. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
