Dr Pikaart and his amazing staff saved my life. I just experienced yet another holiday gathering with my family that two years ago didn’t seem likely. They have my deepest gratitude and immense admiration for their skill and knowledge and passion for saving lives.

I have some suggestion to give, on how to make the disclosure of advanced cancer less traumatic:

1) Patient opinions about life or death must be respected and informations that in the state of Colorado, “end of life medications” are legal and available ought to be given without the stigma of being a taboo subject.

2) Patients ought to be informed of the prognosis, based on recent studies and on the validity of therapies and this includes the adverse side effects of oncological chemotherapy and radiation therapies, because a number of patients regret having undergone such cures.

3)Paperwork regarding the laboratory results and staging with grading of the tumors, ought to be offered without the patient having to ask for it.

4) The patient should not be made to wait a long time at the end of the day, before receiving a bad diagnosis, which in many cases is equivalent to a death sentence.

5) The Figo predictions of life expectancy ought to be mentioned , weather a patient chooses therapies or not, because there are no studies, to compare the life expectancies of those who undergone treatments and those who refuse them…and even on advanced cancers, such as a slower grade 1 endometrioid carcinomas, it is difficult to predict the progression of the disease.

6) Trained personnel, ( possibly nurses), without economical interests in oncological therapies, could be more appropriate, for informing patients of advanced cancers, especially the older ones and follow up care with further informations, ought to be available, since many patients react in shock at the moment of diagnosis and can’t process the gravity of the situation.

7) To explain about hospice care, even for those who reject cures or that prefer to remain in their homes is comforting.

Dr Pikkart was awesome! I was referred to him in January, and he decided to do a complete hysterectomy on me a week ago. Him and his staff were very caring, attentive, and went out of their way to make sure everything was OK. I went back today for a follow up visit and I had nothing but good news. If you’re looking for a cancer OB/GYN he’s the way to go. I would recommend him for anyone. Thank you for all the care that you gave.

I have the BRAC1 Gene Mutation and I am scheduling after seeing Dr. Pikaart a couple of times, a necessary surgery. He is hands down one of the nicest, and most caring Doctors I have ever had caring for me! I have heard from some of my other Specialists, as well as another patient that he is the best, and from how he has treated me and his concern (as well as his staff's kindness), I have to agree, wholeheartedly! If you need his care, you will truly be lucky to get him! I cannot recommend him enough!

A cancer diagnosis is a venture into the unknown. For me, a wide array of emotions bubbled up, from fear and worry to hope and trust. Trust that I would have the perfect healers around me. I went to see Dr. Pikaart, and immediately found his professionalism, caring and wise counsel reassuring. His staff is wonderful too-every person I interacted with was kind and patient.

Dr. Pikaart took his time explaining everything, and answered every question I had. I had the Da Vinci robotic surgery performed by Dr. Pikaart for the hysterectomy that was needed, and it went amazingly well. I am grateful at how quickly my body is healing, and thank Dr. Pikaart and the entire team for their wonderful care.

Dr. Pikaart is not only a skilled surgeon, but someone who genuinely cares for his patients. He will give you your options, based on research and best practice guidelines. It can be difficult to untangle all of the questions that arise when dealing with surgery and cancer, but he explained things to me in a way that made sense, both before surgery, and the treatment options to follow.

There are many modes and layers of healing, and Dr. Pikaart has the openness and forward thinking to incorporate a connection to a naturopathic physician as part of the healing team. I am profoundly grateful for this. I will be visiting her soon.

I highly recommend Dr. Pikaart and all of his staff at Southern Colorado Gynecologic Oncology. If you have a cancer diagnosis, go there and talk to them.

It will be an important part of your own healing journey.

I can not say enough positive things about Dr. Pikaart. From my first visit with him and throughout my surgery and post op visit, he showed nothing but compassion and true, genuine care. He patiently sat through and answered all of my questions without ever making me feel like I was taking up too much of his time. He walked me through my options and although provided details on his recommendation, he never came across in a demanding “this is what you need to do” type manner. Despite the reasoning of why I was referred to him, I am so very thankful for that referral. A truly caring and compassionate physician/surgeon.
