John from Advanced Design Construction embodies everything one could desire in a contractor. Among a pool of bids from other local contractors, John stood out for his unwavering professionalism, meticulous attention to detail (with a touch of OCD, which only enhanced his work), and his adeptness at managing the entire project seamlessly, sparing us the hassle of coordinating multiple subcontractors for various aspects like landscape, shade cover, and outdoor kitchen installation. Our satisfaction with the end result knows no bounds. John effortlessly translated our concepts and desires into reality, accommodating every change and suggestion with patience and a can-do attitude. Never once did he shy away from any request. His craftsmanship has left us beyond content, prompting us to eagerly recommend him and his team to several friends and neighbors.

Horrible experience with the owner - John Kolt, whom we hired to prepare the application/drawings and get the HOA approval for backyard remodeling. Our biggest mistake was to agree to the terms of the contract prepared by John and pay him $1080 out of $1200 in advance. We had to put the application on hold and asked John not to take any actions until the further notice. He agreed to wait until we clarify the need for the application from HOA. Several months later, the need for it was eliminated by HOA and we informed John about it and kindly asked him to refund the money. Unfortunately, he started claiming that he didn't owe us anything and would not refund any money. We then offered him to keep $180 for the inconvenience, but he declined our offer and insists on keeping the $430 for the job he hasn't done. I bet he would keep all the money, if we paid him in cash, didn't keep a hard copy of the contract and deleted all our text msgs.
My advice to anyone who reads this review is to NOT pay him in advance and to better find another licensed contractor. You can see the history of his violations on the CSLB website and that should be a big RED FLAG for everyone. I wish I had checked this information prior to hiring him as a contractor.

I interviewed three other contractors for this rather large and complex project. I chose Advanced Design Construction headed up by John for several reasons. His eye and vision, taking charge of the City Permits, HOA and equally important his work ethic. John was on the job each day directing and advising his employees and when away providing his foreman Jorge with the direction to continue with the project.
The work he completed was exactly what we created and completed beautifully.
I’m a believer that you “Get what you pay for”.
John’s vision, expertise, integrity and work ethic will allow me to recommend Advanced Design Construction to anyone who is planing a project, large or small in the future.

My wife and I love the outcomes of John and his ADC team working on the front and back yards landscaping from the beginning (getting an OK from HOA) to the end (submitting a completion notice to HOA). We recommend that you consider ADC if you want your work done right. Just be clear on what you really want and talk to John Kolt.
